Editorial policy: how NextPrep's questions and guides are made

Medical education deserves a plain account of where content comes from, who checked it and what we don't know yet. Here it is.

1.The short version

Everything on NextPrep today is original. The questions, explanations, flashcards, mnemonics and study guides are drafted with AI assistance and edited by our team. They have not yet been reviewed by independent medical faculty. We say this on the pages that matter, and we recommend you check important facts against standard textbooks and official sources.

2.What we use, and what we never use

We write from standard, widely taught medical knowledge and general exam-preparation experience.

We do not use real examination questions. The National Board does not publish its papers or answer keys, and it has warned that circulating recalled or memory-based questions breaches the non-disclosure agreement candidates sign. NextPrep does not collect, compile or republish recalled questions, and we ask partners and users not to send them to us.

3.How a question is written

Each question has a clinical or conceptual stem, four options, one best answer, a short explanation of the idea, and a reason for every option, saying why the right one is right and why each other is wrong. We aim for questions that test application, not trivia.

Answer positions are shuffled deterministically and checked by automated tests so the correct option is not predictable. Tests also check that every question has a reason for every option.

4.Our use of AI

We use AI to draft and to speed up writing. People decide what is published. AI-drafted medical content can contain errors that read confidently, which is why independent expert review is the most important thing still to come.

5.Review and reviewers

We are building a review process in which named, credentialed medical faculty check questions and guides before they are marked as reviewed. Until a question carries a reviewed label, treat it as practice material awaiting review. We will publish reviewers' names and credentials, with their consent.

6.Keeping content current

Exam rules, counselling processes and guidelines change. Pages that depend on them show a date and say what is confirmed and what is disputed. When the official bulletin differs from anything we say, the bulletin wins.

7.Corrections

If you find a mistake, use the report button on a question or the contact page. We would rather correct it than defend it. We will keep a public log of corrections once reviewers are in place.

8.Independence and money

NextPrep is independent and is not affiliated with any examination authority or coaching institute. Our content is not paid for by advertisers. Affiliate partners must follow honest-claims rules, and links must be disclosed.

9.What this does not mean

Our content is for exam preparation. It is not clinical guidance. We don't predict ranks or scores, and no question set can promise what a real paper will contain.
